Problem setting up ADSL router
#1
I have the Netgear DG814 router, connecting with Claranet ADSL.
I have plugged in the router to the phone line with the filter, conneted the PC and received a successful DHCP IP address.
I connect to the settings and set it up with the following settings(provided by Claranet customer support): PPPoverATM, VC based multiplexing, VPI 0 & VCI 38. Username and password correct and setup for DHCP.
The ADSL connection light on the router flashes yellow occasionally, and I can't connect.
The guy on customer support said he couldn't help until I made sure the modulation was "G.DMT", but I couldn't find this anywhere in the settings??
Please help.
Cheers

Yeah, i've updated to 4.3. I'm going to try a know USB modem on a single PC to see if it's the ADSL or the router.
It's a business line, but when I phoned Claranet up and said I was a business user, they commented that it wasn't a business account. D'you think this would cause problems??

A business account wouldn't make a difference in your configuration settings.
Try out the USB modem with the same phone cable/microfilter.
I take the router is at some offices then? Is it a dedicated ADSL line?
Troubleshoot - strip your setup down to the bare minimum. ie disconnect all phones/faxes etc from the telephone line. Try plugging the router directly into the phone socket thus by passing the microfilter. Then login to the router and have a look at the online status.

Yes the phone line is soley for ADSL, I have tried two different microfilters, there is never any LAN activity on the router status page. I will try the USB modem and see if that works. That will tell me if it's the router or the line.

This may not help you but I was having serious connection problems to with my DG814. I got a beta firmware from them last month and it has been spot on:
4.4 RC5 Sep. 12, 2002 is the revision. I phoned netgear customer support. I might have an email address and even the firmware file still if you want it
Cheers,
Nick

Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh, just bought one of them too - its still in the box ATM, was gonna get it out and spend 5 mins setting it up
As its used for business cant afford any downtime, so looks like this might have to be an out-of-hours task
Any chance of emailing that info/patch to me too please?

I don't know what firmware mine is (I'll check tonight), but I have had problems.
When the router is first booted up it won't connect automatically. The status shows an WAN IP of 0.0.0.0. Connecting manually works fine though.
Had me thrown at first because ever so often it would connect OK.

Hi Nick.
Patched and working within 10 minutes of opening the box. Cheers.
BTW, if I set Idle Timeout to Zero, does this disable it? Don't really want the router dropping the connection if I can help it.
Cheers.
