Well it looks like Sky ain't going to ever come up with a lifetime sub so I'm going Tivo, at this price it seems a great deal, after all the + things I've heard about it.

One question, should I pack away my video, do people with Tivos still use their video recorders?

good timing on the tivo coz my VCR is knacked. will look into tivo if it's any good

 

I suppoes they're trying to get rid of them seeing the parent company that provides the service is going under.

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct 7 (Reuters) - TiVo Inc.
(nasdaq: TIVO - news - people), the
television recording technology company, said on Tuesday it
will raise $25 million through the sale of common stock to
institutional investors, aiming to bolster its cash cushion.

The San Jose, Calif.-based company will sell 6.96 million
shares at $3.59 a share. The price is a 3-percent premium to
the stock's trailing 10-day average closing.

The investors are Crosslink Capital, an institutional
investor focused on growth equity, and New Enterprise
Associates, one of TiVo's founding investors, TiVo said.

These investors will also receive warrants for the purchase
of 2.6 million shares at an exercise price of $5 a share.

Net proceeds from the offering will be used for general
corporate purposes and to supplement working capital, TiVo
said.

Yes keep the VCR for when the HD gets full. At that price might just get another too.

 

You can archive to VCR, but in reality, I've only used my VCR once since buying the TiVo.

Seems really cr@p when you do, as well

I know some people do use the VCR as an extra recording channel.

There are some chaps on the TiVo forum who archive to DVD-R too, which is probably the next gadget for me too.

Am fed up with waiting for George Lucas to release star wars trilogy on DVD, so recorded it off the TV recently in Best Quality, and will archive to DVD - hey presto, instant DVD copy until the new one comes out.

hey, USA is getting a BIGGER HDD (tivo series 2)! they can record upto 80 hours! i suppose they need that with so many channels to record!

hmmm... still not sure about getting the tivo or get a VCR...

 

mod to 120 / 160 gig drives in the current version isn't difficult if you follow the instructions.

On the news the other night, Even though revenue is up, Tivo has been making a net loss all year.
Hmmmm Selling shares to raise money.... doesn't that sound desparate?
I'll stick with the DVD Recorder.

Just double checked, John Lewis will only match prices from other stores, not internet sites.

The price on the Dixons and Currys sites are only 'Web Price' specials! The Comet one doesn't make any suggestion like that, but I don't know how much they are in-store.

they stopped matching internet prices in the past year or so.
