Been using Norton PFW. Not impressed with it. Tried Zone which is better, but... Ideally I need one that that I can configure specific port use. Can't justify high cost enterprise type solution, even though it is partly for work. Any suggestions on a small and cheap FW that is trustworthy and I can configure ports on?

TIA

Matt

It comes down to budget. If you give me an idea of what your prepared to spend then I'm sure we (ie scoobynet) can come up with some suggestions.

Well, cost along the lines of NPFW or Zone.

I mentioned work, but it mostly for home use so it will be paid for by me. Buying something for use on 1 PC I clearly don't need to spend £400 quid on a hardware solution or £1000's on ISA/Checkpoint etc.

Basically an equiv of Zone but where I can config ports

If it's the standard Zone Alarm you are using Zone Alarm Pro gives a lot more control over ports.

For home use I like WinRoute which also provide connection sharing.

I did email the makers of Zone about ports weeks back. couldnt see from the web site if the pro version allowed config of specific ports. they never replied so the pro version will give me complete port control?

There is certainly a lot more port control in the pro version. It's been a few versions back since I last used it. Not sure what you mean by complete control over ports. What are you trying to do?

My mutterings about ports are simply meaning I want to be able to control which ports I allow inbound and outbound.

I use Sygate personal firewall pro which is pretty good. Lets you configure ports pretty easily too.
