Right, just got hold of the XBOX advanced scart lead and voupled to a nice picture from a proper RGB I want the 5.1 sound.
I have a Cambridge Soundworks Desktop Theatre 5.1 (DTT2500) on my PC and was hoping to somehow use it with the xbox instead. Is it possible? It has a digital din socket and an SPDIF in socket.
The advance scart outputs optically so is it possible to get a lead or something that could convert it to the 5.1 speaker system I've got?
TIA Neil.

I don't think there is an adaptor to decode an optical signal and transmit it as an analog signal, or if there is it'll be expensive.
The XBOX Digital out works on purely an optical to optical connection.

You won't like this answer.....but I would say you shouldn't go for the cheapest way! (Not that I know what it is!) Bite the bullet and get a decent 5.1 amp! If you do, try and get something with more than one optical input. You watch a lot of movies, so this would be an investment!! You know it makes sense!!

Youc could always go through your PC using something like the SoundBlaster Live Drive. That has an Optical input so you could go through that. I got a card and drive for £60 recently.
Alternatively, there are devices to convert such as:
This box converts from SPDif Electrical (co-axial) to SPDif Optical (Fibre Optic) and back again. Now you can interface that Digital equipment. £45.00
Do a search in Google, theres plenty of devices available, although I too would suggest getting a 5.1 amp.

not sure if this helps, but i got a scart (m/f) plug adapter
whis has 3 phono leads coming out.(sits between the TV input and the Playstation output lead.
I then use phono jacks to connect PSX audio to a surround amp.
V and L/R audio.
i'm sure you could use this output to connect to the cambridge gear??? or do you need separate channels???
i'll see if i can find a piccie.
