trying to solve in the work for somebody ,

1 pc gigabyte p4 mobo ga81dx

windows ME

Hercules Fortissimo Digital sound card

sometime on bootup the system hangs , you can hit reset and the system will load fine, does it randomly

system will load up to the point where the stuff is loading in the taskbar and hangs there, reckon its the sound card as its the only board plugged in apart from graphics,

have tried the un-install / re-install also download latest drivers trick , last shot was for him to download the latest intel splurdge for his mobo.

any ideas, searched Hercules site for support but it's not reported as an issue

any ideas

TIA

jase

It might be the HDD controller, RAM as well. I had issues in Win98se, similar to this. A reinstall of it fixed the problem. But try moving the soundcard to another PCI slot to. Also ME is pants imo, so use 98se/Win2k or XP if you can.
