Having NTL installed shortly and the woman on the phone said I'd need 'ethernet' on my PC with Windows 98 in order to make it work?

I'm guessing she means an ethernet card. How much, what do I need and where should I get one from?

Also, anyone with NTL know whether I also need to buy an ethernet cable or do NTL supply one with the install?

cheers
Gordon

I got my card from PC world for £15. 10/100Mb card, and came with the cable.
The modem also comes with the cable (I think).
You don't NEED an ethernet card. You can use a USB port instead, but apparently there can be probs with this. I'd spend the money and buy a card.
I assume she meant 98 or above. I'm using XP HE and it works.

I thought the cable modems NTL use now were USB ones ?
Ive got an old 3com one which does need a network card but friends who have had it fitted over the past year or so have all had USB cable modems ?

Ive had mine fitted for less than a year and Ive got the ethernet jobby.

Perhaps it depends on the area? I think there are slight variations in the type of equipment and modems that are used arent there....?

Cool

Varies by area with NTL - mine all comes into the TV set top box and you run ethernet from there to the PC. I needed a straight ethernet cable (not a cross-over) but apparently there are some boxes that require a cross-over cable to be used.

Any old ethernet card will do.
