PS2 Broadband

Just been reading about the plans by Sony to introduce broadband links for PS2 owners, and it got me thinking.
I have a filter for my ADSL connection on the phone line downstairs which is near my PS2. Therefore in theory I should be able to add the Sony modem to the USB port on my PS2, and use my existing Pipex connection strings within the modem?
Anyone know if this will work as yet? If it will work, then get in there. How cool will it be arranging mass Scoobynet GT3 leagues

MJ - Sony are launching it, they have just launched in Japan.
Si - The software will reside either in the modem/ehternet/network unit, or be resident on a memory card.
Hope they release it here soon.

<nods> broadband thru PS2 would be cool, always on internet connection right by my TV, get bored checking ceefax, surf the web, have a GT linkup - here's a question tho....
We know that GT4 is mainly gonna be a online version of GT3, but how long \ what are the odds, that someone will write a piece of software to "fake" a USB port over the net, just map it to the ip of the other PS2, then you could run the normal "link" games as well as the online stuff?
Just a thought.

I don't think you'll be able to browse the web with the PS2.The broadband access is merely to play games via the connection and not to surf the web.I stand to be corrected though?

Si,
Probably the same way as you play games like Counter Strike. Either connect to a regsitered games server or manually enter the IP address of another unit.

Defo - Will have a go at the weekend, but none of this cheating malarky. Si, you must have some cheat code to be doing 446mph
DW
So rules are Complex, any car, any tune state etc. We will just have to trust each other and be honest on times set.

Yes, I think I'll start with the GT1 or the mazda 787B, the mazda has less power but is more controllable, especially engine breaking into corners.
DW, you using the logitech wheel with the paddles on the back of the wheel? Using manual definately gives you the edge I think.

Ian - basic joypad I am afraid, but still manual. I have 2 wheels, but they are both for PS1, and i haven't actually tried them to see if they work yet.
Will try that tonight.

I had the old mad catz wheel on PS1, sprung resistance and RR5 didn't recognise it, so gave it to my dad (along with my PS1, which only works upside down ).
Recently treated myself to the logitech wheel, force feedback really works against you, with a light jiggle on chicanes etc, finally found a wheel that I can beat my dualshock times.
Heartily recommend it if you like your racing games.

No mate called skill timing and hours of gear ratio's.
Did it in the Supra TT, think if i look ive got the reply proof.
On the test track, slip stream.
Give 5other cars 10sec head start by time you catch them at 400 there all in a long line, Slip stream down the back straight.
446 k/ph.
Took lot time and skill
Start a GT3 challenge next weel.
Do you prefer the GT1 over the F1 cars?

Had a go at this last night til the early hours of the morning. Unfortunately I dont have any really quick cars such as F1, GT1 etc.
So lat night I did my first endurance race - the Seattle one. Took me over an hour, but then I missed the flaming F1 car at the end for winning (when the screen comes up with 4 cars that you can have, you can choose one by quickly hitting X when the black circle is underneath).
I missed the F1 car and got a Tommy Kaira ZZII - lovely looking, 1000kg and now 918bhp.
Quickest time I could get on Complex String was 4:12.
How did you manage sub 3 minutes, which car? Still going for it though - get a new post up on Monday with some challenges.
PS, I presume you do "proper" driving? i.e. stick to the track, no shortcuts over chicanes etc?

Tell you what do one test any cars. Another say rally cars/ super cars. Limit it to any Evo, Supra, Skyline, impreza or any surgestions?
Personally the F1 car . Its acceleration and handling is phenominal, do i do like kalsonic Skyline and rally impreza

DW, don't see any reason why you can't hang your PS2 off your existing Broadband. I would think Sony have to design the add-on so it takes advantage of any broadband connection the user has. As someone has said, there's a browser available and it wouldn't surprise me if people write several other too, although you'd need a usb keyboard too.
As for online racing - GT4 will need no less than a broadband connection (56kmodem forget it). Auto Modellista is out right now in Japan as an example of broadband racing games.
Has anyone tried a LAN based game of GT3 using the ilink cable from Sony ?
