Just looking for some tales of experiences using it, goood, bad or ugly? A potential client is looking for someone to maintain / further develop an existing app with a Sybase backend. Got plenty of experience developing against SQL Server and Oracle but never been anywhere near Sybase.

Guys,

Many moons ago Sybase sold the code for one of its core products to Microsoft; this was what was to become SQL Server. I shall refrain from commenting about whether or not the deal made sense but am told that it was necessary at the time.

As a company Sybase boasts excellent solutions, especially in the field of relational databases. Sybase is industry leader in the UK Financial Services market. Other markets include integration (including mobiles) and web-technology.

Sybase databases are known for speed / response, this being important to large scale installations.

Should any of you wish to be put in touch with someone from Sybase, please let me know. Location is not an issue; Sybase is a global blue-chip.

Hope this helps; apologies for the lack of detail - I'm a Network Engineer, not a product specialist.

Cheers,

Giles.

We use sybase as our back-end server for an international cross-asset trading system, capable of processing up to 7 trades per second. I don't know much about the DB itself (I work on the front-end stuff) but I gather it's very good.

I've always been impressed with the simplicity and speed of Sybase.
