OK, I've just rebuilt XP on my office pc and found that due to Sun suing the @ss off Microsoft, they won't supply JVM.

So off I trot to Sun and download the Java 2 Runtime Environment.

Which would have been fine if it wasn't cr@p. I've been to a couple of sites that use Java menus and both won't work

Should I try an older version or is there a way of getting hold of the previous JVM Microsoft shipped?

Hopping onto to http://www.microsoft.com/java it now says its only availible via Windows Update.... may be worth a go... failing that I have a copy of MS JVM 3805 that I can upload somewhere.

I do agree about Suns JVM's - they are a pile of poo.

Yeah, I found that message too, but Windows Update doesn't list it anymore even when I've just ran a fresh XP install and haven't downloaded any updates yet

If you've got broadband, just e-mail it to me if you can.

And it's been pulled from all the main download sites ZDnet, Softwarepatch.com, Download.com, etc..

Might be worth trying the older Java version from Sun. You can get 1.1 from here http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1...e-windows.html

Well, I'm well and trully . Just re-installed XP @ home and there's no mention of JVM on the Microsoft Update Site.

Do you have a URL?

Yes it does, nothing wrong with your memory

Problem is when you say OK to download it, you get re-directed to a Microsoft page informing you that it's been removed

This is the little beauty http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...er/default.asp

As you can see it's very helpful indeed

Here you go, I've just downloaded it and it works.
http://www.microsoft.com/java/download/dl_sdk40.htm

Bit of a bummer for those without broadband though, its a 19.3Mb file

Took me 4 minutes

Managed to sort the problem with an older version of the Sun Java plug-in too.

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/

I've also downloaded the original JVM and the new MS one just in case.

Only took me 4mins too with my cable connection
