Figment, you can still get FCPGA cpus. P3-1GHz retails for under £100 now and a converter from a slot to a socket 370 should be about £20.

HHxx - cheers, will look at that - the mobo has slot 1 and socket 370 so won't need the convertor.

Daft question, how can I check if its the mobo or CPU thats FUBAR, when I don't have another machine to play swapsies with?

Super_si, mail me with a price if you thinking of selling please

DominicA - All fans spin and can hear HD spinning up but no post beeps nor signal out from Graphicd card.

Remove CPU from mobo and power up gives exact same result, which makes me suspect CPU, but this could be a red herring.

Talking

Swap your P3 for a P4, and say "you missed one "

A slot1 P2 would work as well.

Not into making offers mate - mail me with the price you thinking of. If I like it, I'll buy - if not I'll say no thanks.

Seems the existing CPU and MoBo are both covered by 3yr warranty, so as soon as I can establish which one is FUBAR I can process a claim.

Hope it's not the MoBo tho, cos that's got to be returned to the US of A at my expense - prolly more than the board is worth

Slightly happier Figment now

Sent it off for 'testing'

If its truly FUBAR a replacement within a week or so

If it aint FUBAR will get the same one back.

As this one didn't boot the PC but a different CPU did, there's a fair chance it is FUBAR
