Anyone selling their Graphics Card?
#1
Got a TNT2 at the mo and need to upgrade. Not looking to spend loads, but would like another nVidia. Got a 700mhtz Athlon with 256mb RAM and need to get some extra speed on gaming side...
Anyone selling anything at the moment?

yeh ive been thinking about upgrading. Ive got a nice year old AGP Sparkle GeForce2 GTS 32mb, 7.36GB per second memory, 350mhz RAMDAC.
Worth about £70 I reckon, or whatever. Only thing is the fan has stopped working, but I've been reliably told it wont affect the performance or health of the card, as the heatsink is obviously still in place.
Anyway the card is nice n powerful, it runs really well with my lowly box, Duron800 256MB RAM, so it will run all games better with your athlon 700 in high res's. eg GTA3 runs fine @ 800X600 and fps games run well @ 1024X768 and above.
If youre interested let us know here

Mmm don't like the sound of that fan not working. I thought they were needed to keep the GPU temp down. Would not have thought the heat sink would be enough... £70 more than I was thinking. Maybe we can haggle. How about £25?

nah although youre right and it helps keep temps down, it wont affect the card longterm. Its just an unecessary safeguard really. If u were in the desert using it then maybe it would be a problem
£25? cmon, £50 minimum
Forgot to say, would come boxed with manual and drivers on CD (Although the best drivers are the XP detonators from nvidias website)

No probls. Like I said, I'm really after a bargin as I don't have much to spend (as you can see).
Thanks anyway, and if you decide to sell later let me know.
PS. Could poss stretch to £40 but will need to check.

Dunk,
That's (64Mb ABIT Siluro T400 GeForce MX-400 ) the one I've narrowed it down to. I'm going to do a bit of research first to see how the performace compares. I assume I'll see a big improvement from my TNT2?

You'll probably get better from the Kyro II, given the chance I'd go for that one instead
Somebody posted some compaisons a little while ago that put the Kyro II way ahead. Who was that then . . . . . ?

I'm no expert mate. I bought a GF2 MX400 recently and it plays Spiderman, GTA3, Soldier of Fortune 2 etc all very well, so I'm pleased with it. Much better than my TNT2 which wouldn't even play Spiderman.
Theres others on here that know a lot more than me and could answer your Q's Try the Counter Strike peeps

dunk your CPU has alot to do with that thou Its the combination of parts that makes the PC work well.
imo for reliability n drivers u should go Geforce and nothing else.
Nimbus u probably wont notice much difference to be honest. U need something beefier like mine
And the ram is not that important, as long as its more than 16mb. Most games these days dont make the most of 32mb never mind 64mb

Thanks Mate,
Fnds allowing, I think I'm going to go for the GeForce2. I somehow feel safer with a brand I know. And anything has got to be better than my TNT2 (although I think it's still pretty good).
Cheers

bio - You're right CPU counts for a lot. Mind you I'm only using an Athlon 1.2Ghz, pretty lame by todays standards.
For £50 you can't really go wrong with the GF2. Great driver support, backed by NVidia, sorted

depends what u want mate? if u want silky smooth high frame rates at any resolution in any game, then yes u need to splash out on a AMD XP 1900+ at least plus decent mobo, DDR RAM and GF2 or GF3 gfx card.
Otherwise if youre happy to be able to play any game at respectable res but put up with the odd jump or halt in a game or maybe a problem with new games, stick with your athlon 700
Of course if u splash out, it will all be out of date this time next year
Im going to get a tbird 1400 as its the max my mobo can take n stick it out until its too slow. A few years yet hopefully.
