Default Vodafone, what a rip off

Due to upgrade my phone contract, not really sure what handset i want so had a nosey at whats about and also what sort of tarrifs are available.

Not that bothered about changng handset so rolling month sim only is an option.

I've got an S6 and only thing that came up that i might change to is an S8, not that bothered though.

Current contract is 1gb + 3gb bolt on, unlim, unlim for £38 a month.

Had a look in the usual place, www.mobiles.co.uk and best tarrif looked to be,

5gb data
unlim text
unlim minutes

on EE, £27.99 a month, 1 off fee of £100 upfront (£255 but £155 off offer on) and a free vr gear. Other option is £32 a month with £15 for same thing. Both end up similar costs overall.

on Vodafone a similar thing but 4gb, unlim, unlim, £25 one off and £32 a month.

So know what I'm looking at, ring vodafone to see if they can do it cheaper.

£39 a month, eh? i only pay £38 a month now for the same contract.

So £7 a month more than the competition and im supposedly a valued customer. Righto.

Ring 191 and ask to speak with the contract cancellation team, they will most likely match/better any other deal that you have been offered. I have to do this every 2 years.

If you tell Vodafone cancellations that you're off to Utility Warehouse for a SIM only plan chances are they will offer you a really decent SIM-only deal. Then...

Try and buy a nearly new late model phone outright from a decent local phone repair shop.
They're often interested in trading in the phone they sold you when you come to change next time to keep you coming back so you can haggle.

Last month I went to my local, 14 mile round trip, Vodafone shop to transfer my lads out of date contract from me to him, and so he could switch to a sim only. Sim only offer was online, so shop said do at home, by phone. At home, was told I had to go to shop, went back, 20 min wait in shop, no sorry we can't do both operations. FFS! Went home to cancel totally, computers down at Vodafone 24 hrs, obstructed all the way, no wonder they were voted worst customer service this year, rant over

Do you have BT Broadband? If so they have some spectacular deals on EE. Mine is unlimited everything and 20gb for £16pm no upfront fee.

I took out a deal with Sky for my wife.
24 month contract, 1GB data rolling, usual unlimited calls/text, iPhone 7 with no upfront costs - £25 per month.
O2 were looking £43 per month for the same deal, Vodaphone looking £32
