Is it possible? I can see nowhere its listed under Settings nor on icloud.com. I can disable it being viewed on the calendar but next day its back visible again. Have googled and all methods suggest back to iOS 7 or 8 where the menu options were different and no longer visible.

The bottom of the calendar screen where it says "calendar" you can select or add callenders

 

For other Calendars yes - click on the info button. But for this particular one there is no delete option.

 

Hmm no sure but my iphone 6 i can turn off uk holidays in the menu on the calendar screen and add personal calendars or delete them, dont think you can delete the uk holiday calendar but can select to turn it off
