Sony IP7 Camcorder
#2
I got a Sony PC9E, bought a PCI firewire card from PC World, about £30 naked, or £60 with some bundled software.
You really need either a backup HD or a huge primary HD,
DV footage takes up gigs of space, but using supplied software (Ulead Video Studio4) or if you can afford it/crack it (Adobe Premier 6).
I cant remember the size of this bit of footage before I converted it to mpeg, but its prolly getting on for 500megs, once converted its down to 7/8meg with resonable quality.

If your goin to the combined Hants/Dorset meet I could bring a copy of Premier 6, a second hand original copy ofcourse

The problem with the IP7 (and IP5) is that it stores video directly in MPEG2. This is a compressed format (from frame to frame), which is fine for "publication" (indeed used for DVDs) but not for editing. Thus you have to use the Sony proprietary video editor, rather than any old DV edit program.
Its a lovely camcorder, but limited in what you can do with it.
