Default Android / Pioneer App Radio Problems

I have a Samsung S5 and short of rooting the device and running hacked software I just cannot get it to connect to my Pioneer AVH-X3600DAB properly.

Both the head unit and handset can connect via Bluetooth and handle the hands free calling and music streaming but that is about it.

I was hoping to run apps from the head unit such as Dash Command etc but so far nothing, is this possible via the USB connection on the head unit and some form of lead which will connect to the S5?

What is frustrating that all this functionality is there, and if I had an iPhone there would be no need to mess about it would just simply work.

I think it can work, it's just that I don't want to go through the hassle of rooting my S5 and running hacked / homebrew software to make it work.

I guess if it cannot be done easily then I will look at going back to the dark side.

Well I think that will be my option as well, albeit going for an iPhone of some description.

LOL. I have a similar problem, no lightning connection for my iPod only Alpine. It's bloody old though, 7 odd years and still works great via bluetooth... other than the blown speaker that I keep saying I'll replace.

I now own a UK Hatchback STi, I use Dash Command or Torque Pro - my hope was to mirror Dash Command on the Pioneer head unit.

The OBD connector is just a standard generic bluetooth item.

It does but the S5 cannot connect to it other than as a MTP or as a camera, the S5 cannot connect as a mass storage USB device.

If you connect the S5 as an MTP device then the head unit cannot read it.

That is what in all probability I will end up doing, I am just waiting for the iPhone 6 to show it's face and then I look at buying one outright.

It is a shame that Android handsets moved away from the established standard just to 'improve' things, everyone recognises USB mass storage devices and virtually nobody works with the MTP standard.

Just got my son the 5s 16 on 3, only 9 quid upfront, then 38 a month, but we needed all you can eat data, I find none of the other vendors come close to what 3 does.

I also learnt last week that there network is one of the best now, they used to be tosh.

I did mention the IPhone 6 to him but with my 5s I paid the premium for it

99 quid and 50 a month for the 64 gig.

All I need now is the new Ipad, however rumour has it that the Ipad pro is due 1/4 1 2015 12.9inch screen, do I wait .......

Cannon does the android not support an av out cable ? Ie to watch your videos or movies on the fone on a big telly ? I have iphone 5 and without mirroring i use the av cable to get the dash command on the stereo screen ,,, av cable was like 3 quid as opposed to the cheapest mirrorlink cable is about £70 for my unit

I know your unit is android but just wondering if a cheap av cable would at least give you the dashcommand display on the headunit albeit without the touchscreen functionality of a full mirror

I have done another search and found that it 'may' be possible to use an MHL adapter with a HDMI lead to connect the S5 to the head unit, I am not sure if this will work but for the low price it had to be worth taking a chance.

Regardless of that the S5 will end up being changed in the very near future.

Thanks for the pointer, I might have found a work around but it certainly won't give full functionality.

cool - all this modern technology is great but theres still a lot of trial and error as so many different combinations of hardware and software that quite often it is just a case of buying and trying ,, must admit I still am not certain if buying the correct pioneer lead to allow full mirror capability would allow me to use the headunit touchscreen to control apps or not yet - ill find out when I have £70 spare for a gadget gamble

I think that with the correct Pioneer adapter set for both Android or iPhone then they will work, but blowing £70 on uncertainty is a bit of a gamble.

It doesn't help that the internet is so full of conflicting information either.
