Default Rooting older android phone

How much security would i lose if I went to android 4 from android 2.something

Is it a crazy thing to consider?

My other thought was functionality of the OS if you went back a level or two. Can you not root version 4?

You can root virtually all versions of Andriod if not all.

Security isn't an issue as long as you download most of your apps from the play store. I generally only use xda for the additional apps I need.

Rooting an older device and upgrading to a later version is more than possible, but there could be a performance issue if your old phone doesn't have the horsepower in processing. Also if a rom was created from another device there might be a few bugs which you will have to live with.

Sometimes it is easier to get a 6 month old Android phone with Android 4.4 installed and root that
