Can I clay paintwork that has been dealer treated with a sealant ?
Hi. Can I clay bar my silver 04 wagon when it was originally treated with optional ScotchGuard sealant ? I plan to then polish, wax and seal. Will the original treatment be long gone? Its never been clayed before. Thanks

Polishing will remove all the sealant, if you want to remove the sealant before you clay use IPA or wash with a strong mix of APC. Make sure you use plenty of lube when claying more the merrier or you can cause damage to the soft Subaru paint.

If the car was originally treated in '04, the sealant will have gone by '05, easily.
2bm wash, clay, 2bm wash, polish, seal, wax. After you've done that wax it every other week for the first few weeks so that you have 3 or 4 layers of wax on there. Then just top up every couple of months depending on how much useage the car gets.
Hth,
Matt.

the polish that was first put on it will be long gone as said, if you do the above then you wont have to wax it for 3-6 months if washed correctly. If you dont want to wax it every week then when you've washed it just waft some detailer spray over the top to give it a top up and a nice easy shine.
