Does anyone know if I can get away with R222 Total Auto Wash to clean my FMIC. Will more than likely need to use a small brush to aggitate it then rinse off etc.

Need to do the arches,under seals and exhaust including rear diff guard.

Need to give the car it's first wash since winter started so is caked in grime off the roads .

I took a minute to think what FMIC was!

Total Auto Wash should be fine on it, but I'd recommend trying a test area first just in case it stains.

It was fine on my tmic and all the others I done with it. I then switched to Megs Super Degreaser and that's fine as well. Just be carefull with the fins fella

Super Degreaser should be fine too but its PH is 14, R222 is 9 so a good bit less alkali.

 

John - this may be a dumb question, but wouldn't something more alkaline be better on Aluminium / Alloy products rather than acidic? My line of thinking is that acidic products are more likely to mark , corode the aluminium / alloy?

 

To the best of my knowledge, yes, alkali will be better than acidic on aluminium, R222 being mildly alkali, Super Degreaser strongly alkali.

Something like Wheel Brightener would probably cause some staining (ph of 3)

Not 100% sure of this though (will research!)

 

Thanks John. I found the R222 to be a better cleaner. Which I'm assuming then is down to the lower ph level (more acidic) then. And as a plus it smells nicer too The only reason why I switched was because the Megs SD works out cheaper to buy in volume.

 

Total Auto Wash is still an alkali cleaner, it's just closer to neutral ph.

It is a little more expensive but it's great for most tasks: it's also great through the foam lance when you're looking for great cleaning power and don't mind stripping waxes or sealants.
