Thumbs up G220 Results

I've been having a go with the G220 and Menzerna pads and compounds... first a big thanks to PB for their help on this, initially with talking about what to get and then some practical advise from Rich today Also I've found a local detailer to me, a guy called James I also called in to see him and had a good chat he gave me some great tips as well.

I have spent the last few days on this breaking the car down into sections, I've used both polishing and finishing pads on it so it is taking double the time this time around. So far I've completed passenger side, boot and rear bumper and tonight I got the bonnet sorted. The bonnet has taken 2 hours on it's own... I think it total so far I've given this around 8 hours on the machine alone and still have a bit to go.

These are from this evening but I don't have a lamp to show before shots effectively enough, only the big setting lamp in the sky to work with

I know the car was spottless a couple of months back but It's been in for paintwork recently and you could feel a light covering over it when running your hand over and it had picked up a few swirls etc so this gets me back better than before.

That's just a few bonnet shots for now, after this I'll be getting the Lusso out followed by some DoDo Juice

I can understand after doing this now why some of the detailers are up half the night after they make a start, after a while you get your head into it and get in the groove and it's difficult to walk away, I suddenly realised it was 9pm earlier after making a start at 6.30 after work... stripped all the bonnet vents out to make things easier as well.

Looks really good result so far. I don't like to say this, but I kinda miss my Impreza Sport, maybe I will be back sooner rather than later in Impreza ownership, but how knows.

I would like to get a G220, actually that is going to be my next purchase from PB, or maybe the one after that.

Car is looking stunning as usual.

Managed to finish off with the machine today.... it must be in the region of 12-13 hours so far this last week alone.

Next step will be to call in to see James the detailer I have come accross over on DW, he's only 15 mins away from me which is a result... we will get the car in his shop and have a proper look under lighting at it, there are a couple of area's that I have left alone but James may consider possible to correct further so let's see what next week and an expert eye brings.

Then I can start again by hand next time I knew I should never have signed onto the Detailers World forum

12-13hrs you`ve more patience than me,i just use average stuff on mine an it works well enough-think the most expensive stuff i use is collinite 915 at around £23

Polish im using at the moments about £16 for 5ltrs an to be honest its quite good, only downside to it is if its left a while it seperates and needs shaking really well other than that cant really fault it for the price.

Pic belows after CG petes 53 wax ive probably got 6 or 8 waxes around the £20 price

Cars never seen a polisher, though i have owned it since it were 3yr old.

Try blackfire wet diamond AFPP or sonus sfx 4 sealant (old fourstar ultimate paint protection)on yours as im pretty sure it`l come up alot shinier than it is at the mo based on it being properly polished-makes a massive difference to how mine looks without the machine polish.

Cheers guys

The reason it's taken so long Dave is basically this time it's been done twice, once with the polishing compound then the following with the fine finishing compound.... it's not the easiest thing but you just have to stick at it and keep going but the results are well worth it in the end.

You must have looked after yours well in the years you have owned it as it always looks mint

Never been machine polished but its had plenty of polish by hand and possibly more sealant/wax than most of the cars on here got me a bit of a rep with me mates-ive got 2 of their cars to do this week, one`s a mk2 escort cosworth, others just a 406 coupe (ad the owner runs a couple of spl cars this bein the mild one)

Not gonna hijack ya thread anyway, but the sealants i mentioned and waxes 915/petes 53 are worth considering if you`ve not tried them.

Last pic an im going, 2 coats of 915 on mine this wkend (a wash between coats a day apart)

Were literally wash leather off apply 915 + buff off-rained later that day so were pissed off as i`d not even been anywhere in it so the next day washed leathered off applied/buffed off that were it.

Look fwd to seeing more pics of yours.

Hijack away it's not a problem for hand you get a very high standard every time there Dave

I called in to see James today and we put the depth gauge on the car and all is well, no really low areas so that made me feel a lot better.
Also looking at the car in the workshop under lighting and aiming the spotlight on it on the main the car was good... James pointed out just a couple of small parts that can be easily refined with the G220 before waxing to get the best out of it, over all he was happy with my effort so far because he had seen the car before and knew what needed doing.

So hopefully in the next day or so weather permitting I'll get it finished off

Pmsl ive found the depth of mine purely by accident theres several places im through the laquer an a couple where primers through so im in a perfect position to tell ya where to be careful

Front edges of front doors and top edges of bk 1/4`s alongside the bootlid be careful with, im through to primer in one place on the front edge of both front doors and virtually the length of the bk 1/4`s top edge alongside the bootlid is through aswell, couple of other none obvious places im through the laquer ones on the bonnet where its probably had coarse polish at sometime in its life to remove a bird muck stain or something-either way its blatantly lower than the rest-wax covers it pretty well though for now, when the bonnets stonechipped more i`ll get it painted an it wont be an issue-just at the moment all the paints factory so its not looking bad i guess for its age.

(keep ya spotlight away from mine lol mine will look good till ya get up close with a halogen it wouldnt be as pure looking as your`s)

What a fantastic effort... a careful patient approach, cracking photography and excellent looking results. Well done that man, glad to hear and see that the discussed method is working out well for you.

Thanks Rich and many thanks for yours and Angela's time as well great advice
Hopefully you realised what that orange foam pad was addressed to you last week

I'm going to do an up to date thread in the gallery and link it here, for now here's a couple of tasters

That's a run over with the Lusso Revitalising Cream and 2 coats of DoDo Juice Purple Haze after the Menzerna and the G220

I'm knackered

Dave I had not realised from your pics that you had rubbed your way that deep into your paintwork... I have had a spot of good fortune here as James a detailer local to me has one of those expensive measuring tools and we check not only paint depth but also laquer depth on the paint as well, good peace of mind to know there is still plenty on here.

You were correct about the pad... I slowed things down and pressed if it expanded, we are both alive and well to tell the story (that's me and the new pad)

Here we go this is the full thread.... https://www.scoobynet.com/members-ga...ml#post8868788
