STI Detail (Part 1 Arches and Alloys)
I thought I would do some write ups as I detail my car for those that are interested.
I like my cars to be clean although this was very good when I got it from Malky.
I went to town with my last Scooby and won the Polished Bliss monthly Show and Shine competition Show n Shine Winner - September '08so I have a healthy cleaning shelf but the paint work on this is almost perfect anyway not much correction needed.
I wanted to lift the suspension a little as the tyres just catch the rear arches when you have 4 in the car so I decided to clean under the arches and alloys at the same time but the wheels took longer than expected.
I jacked up the rear and removed the wheels.
I power washed under the arches then applied Megs Super degreaser 4:1 and gave it a good going over with a brush then power washed off again. I got plenty of road grime off. Will do this again when I get the chance to make sure it’s all gone.
On to the alloys.
I cleaned them last week with Menzerna 7.5 Wheel cleaner so I gave them a covering with Megs Super degreaser 4:1 and again used a brush.
I thought this would have been enough for them but there were lots of tar/small rust spots (posibly from Red Stuff pads) on the inside of the rims and in the corners of the spokes.
I gave them a soaking in Tardis but it had little effect.
I had a go with some Megs Clay which removed some of the bits but was hard going. I switched over to some old Farekla G3 compound I had lying around and this eventually did the trick.
I blasted the polish residue off with the pressure washer and dried them with a microfiber cloth.
I applied some Werkstat Prime for some shine then sealed them with Poorboys wheel sealer.
Then on to the front.
Exactly the same as the rears using Megs Super Degreaser 4:1 with a brush then pressure wash as before but it’s a bit easier with the plastic arch liners.
The front alloys where dirtier inside due to brake dust but it didn’t have the rust specks like the rears so easier to do.
Again I used some Werkstat Prime for some shine then sealed them with Poorboys wheel sealer.
Then finished off all the tyres with Blackfire Long Lasting Tyre Gell
More to follow when i have some time.

Somthing I'd love to do, but then think of a million other things I could spend a day doing (that won't make me ache as much ) and never get round to it!

Thanks guys
It’s only two or three hours work on two evenings after work (have been a too busy to do it all at once) so it’s not a ache to do.
If you get it done in small bits you don’t get sick of it and the time is easier to find
