Default Buffing new paint???

Hi All,

I have just had my car repainted.

They guys have done a great job. They have told me to wait 2 weeks then start polishing the car to get a really good shine.

I know some will ask why they didnt do it but they painted it for free so I cant complain that they didnt polish it.

Any advice on what polish/pads etc to use please.

Andy

Has the paint been cured in any way at all, i.e. baked in an oven or flashed off with Infra-Red lamps?

Hi,

Thanks for replying, yes it was baked in an oven. Apologies I should have stated that at the begining.

In that case you should be able to polish it hard straight away. Fresh paint usualy needs light compounding followed by careful finishing to get a spot on finish. Assuming the paint will be intermediate to hard in terms of hardness (which is a reasonable assumption for a baked finish), please see the sticky thread at the top of the car care section that describes how to safely polish Subaru paint by machine. The two stage process shown (using Menzerna RD3.02 and then Menzerna 85RD) should be ideal if working with a dual action machine polisher. However, if you will be working with a rotary polisher, I would wait a few weeks for Menzerna 203S to come in to stock with us, as it's truly excellent in situations like this (should allow just a one stage process to be used instead). If you want to talk it through in more detail give me a call on 0845 4540017.
