Well i had a day off to try and have a go with the new Rotary, Took all day but the car certainly looks alot better now, the bonnet was one of the areas i wanted to correct, first the before shot:



So I washed, clayed, and started to polish with two passes of Menzerna RD3.02 on a sonus yellow pad, then finished with 2 passes of Menzerna 85RD on a sonus red pad, here we see the after, remember this is my first time and i was being cautious:



Maybe 90% correction?

Pretty happy with the results overall, the roof seems to be a different matter with deep staining and marks that seem to be under the clear coat.

Red fleck is now more visible:

opinion of rotaries is that you really have to take it easy,
and treat them with a wee bit more respect than the DA's,
there just isn't nearly enough scope for error.
Can see myself going down the same road eventually tho.

Thanks mate, yeah i was taking it easy, which is why i still have a few marks left on it. I am happy with the results well worth the money in my opinion!

Nice job first time round. I would say to gain the benefit of a rotary get a PTG at least. The aim is to get near 100% correction as possible and to gain this you need an idea of paint thickness.

The rotary can be dangerous in the wrong hands but with a bit of common sense its the best tool for the job. Ideally you could of stepped up the rpm to at least 1700rpm when at the IP stage to remove serious defects. Then remove any holograms\buffer trails with 85rd later to refine the finish.

Check as you go...Ensure the panel doesnt get too hot......

 

Looks like a pretty good first effort to me, well done. Practice makes perfect so keep at it, on scrap panels if you have to - once you have learnt it you'll never forget, but to get that comfortable takes a fair bit of practice.
