Crazed Bumper Paint
Hi All
Not sure if this is the right forum for this post really, but hopefully someone might be able to advise me I've managed to do this to my poor bumper
Had a bit of a mishap on a wet and greasy b-road and found myself in the ditch. Just bumped into the hedge and my bumper was pushed in, thankfully low-speed so no harm done except to the paintwork. It almost looks ok from some angles but I can't cope with seeing it from the bad angles any longer!
The bumper was originally blue and had only recently been bought and painted silver to go on my car There's a fair thickness of laquer on there with the intention of trying to stop the chips, so all in all there's quite a bit of paint on there. I'm told this could be cracked/crazed all the way through and so need rubbing down totally before being resprayed. Is this the case?
I've tried gently rubbing down with 1200 and T-Cut Scratch-X (something like that anyway) on some areas which has improved it a little but nowhere near good-as-new. Do I need to perservere or just get it to the body shop?
Would I make a significant saving if I rubbed the bumper down myself rather than paying the body shop to do it or is this not recommended? Any good places around Sheffield that someone might recommend?
Cheers,
Ben

To give you some idea on repair costs; somebody ran into my car in a carpark and did similar damage a few weeks ago. It cost me £230 for a proper repair at a good local bodyshop.
