Default Aircon and blower fan

Hi all, apologies for my noobness up front.

Just got myself a 1998 Subaru Impreza Terzo (No. 62).

It's a little rough around the edges and I am going to have to get my hands dirty to fetch it up to scratch..... It's been a while.

The first issue which I would like to tackle is the blower/aircon.

When I got the car, the previous owner had removed the aircon belt under the bonnet (he said because it increases performance). However, the interior blowers dont seem to work and I was wondering whether this is the reason or whether these are completely seperate issues?

Thanks in advance.

I'd start by checking the fuses first mate, if they can be confirmed as working/good then go from there to stuff like relays and connections at the motor itself. Does it work right up at maximum speed?

Thanks Piehole.

They dont blow at all on any setting.

Do you know whether the blowers and aircon are the same? I.e. If I replace the aircon belt, the blowers will work?

No mate, the blower should work just fine without the A/C. Someone had actually removed the A/C from my classic completely and my blower worked fine. Sounds like a fuse may be missing or blown. I was thinking maybe the resistor pack that controls the fan speed may have been faulty but will usually allow the fan to run at maximum speed even if faulty.

Right-o.

Think I'll need to pick up a haynes manual or similar and do the checks one by one.

Thanks for the advice.

Unfortunately there's no Haynes manual but look on http://ken-gilbert.com/impreza-manuals for some wiring diagrams and fuse location/identification.

There's not a lot for uk cars so you'll have to make do with the Australian diagrams like I did.
