Default No clutch on start, restart engine clutch ok?

Hi all
Just had a weird one this morning. Pouring with rain so I decide to take the car into work, start the car fine, go to select reverse, gear grinding noise and can't select gear. Try to select a forward gear, no luck. It's as if the car has no clutch although there is pressure under the clutch pedal.

So I turn off the engine and restart, voila, working clutch, selecting all gears smoothly. Drove to work, nice and smooth. Stopped for petrol, restarted, clutch fine.

Any ideas as to why the clutch took a vacation on the first start? She had been sat a couple of days in gear, handbrake etc.

Thanks
Dave

Maybe the clutch fork got stuck, happened on my classic once and took a few attempts to get it to move.

Thanks. Hopefully that was it. The second time I started it was fine and has been since. I could really do without a gearbox / clutch rebuild right before Christmas lol.

Thanks
Dave
