Trending Topics
I'm not being funny here, but out of 30 threads on the first page of NSR (ignoring this one) only 3 are immigrant related and one of those barely got a response.
I know this thread was probably a bit tongue in cheek, but it may possibly have some amount of seriousness to it, I don't know, hence my reply.
When it comes to such topics, I might not agree with a lot of what is posted (and I will put my feelings forward), but I would fight for the right for people to have those discussions. I honestly feel that shutting down certain conversations carries the risk of creating even more divisions between people.
It would be nice if we could have these discussions without them descending into childish arguments with insults being thrown about, but hey ho, I suppose we can't have it all.

To be fair not everyone that has concerns surrounding immigration is a racist (although I know that is not what you are saying). Even people that come across that way, may not be racist knuckle heads, they may just not have looked at things a certain way and therefore sensible discussion may be more constructive as it is only through discussions that minds are opened. Some people won't take a step back from their own opinions and that is just life.
That said, I don't think people should be afraid of ever raising a story that happens to involve people of non-British origin for fear of being branded racist. Or that having concerns around immigration equals them being racist. It is the labelling of people and attempts to prevent open discussions that can lead to even more divisions and bad feeling in my opinion. Whichever side of the fence one is on, forcing opinions on people in an aggressive manner only ever seems to get backs up more and leads to arguments and sniping, at which point any discussion is pretty much over.

Agree
Not so sure about this. I would agree that most people are thick (not sure it is PC to say this).
In my opinion, everyone is a racist and it is part of human nature.
Some people have self awareness (of this failing) and take action against it.
I think the leftie article of faith that people are not inherently racist - that it is a learned behaviour is both naive and dangerous.
Having said that - this is obviously the opinion of a thicko who would like to think he has a degree of self awareness.

the problem is people do have genuine concerns over immigration
basically on 2 levels
the cultural and economic impact
headlined by
Cultural - is the UK going to adopt Sharia Law, -- probably not
Economic - If we get rid of immigrants will my wages rise and tax decrease, -- probably not
the problem is people get fed miss-information and simple lies about most of it
this countries problems are not the result of immigration imo

I think that people try and simplify a really complex issue, often by focussing on the extreme margins of the issue.
I'm actually yet to meet anyone who believes in uncontrolled immigration, or who indeed thinks all immigration is good
