Hi, this is my first impreza so not sure if its normal but on my03 sti when coming off the throttle there seams to be a momentary pause before the engine braking starting.

Is this normal or not?

 

Does it do it all the time or just after coming off boost? Mine will do this sometimes after coming off hard throttle. Think its just the closed loop fuelling.

Yours is a cable throttle so get under the bonnet and turn the throttle by hand, check it's clean all the cables are correctly secured and adjusted correctly. If all that's ok it maybe the throttle body itself that has an issue. I had a throttle jam wide open once on a ST Mondeo. Turned me off cable throttles, drive by wire may not be every ones cup of tea but it doesn't jam open.

 

The throttle cable seams a tight as previous cars not overlly tight, and the butterfly mech opens n closes fine

 

Before mapping my revs would rise in between gear changes (MY02 WRX) ........ they all did it LOL
