Default Can anyone make sense of these gear ratios please

The box has gone in MY96 WRX, code and ratios for the box are as follows:
TY752VBCAA 3.166 1.882 1.296 0.972 0.738 4.444

I am looking at fitting the box and diff from a MY98 JDM Forester S Turbo
with the following code and ratios:
TY752VB3CA 3.454 2.062 1.448 1.008 0.825 4.111

Am I right in thinking the forester ratios are shorter hence quicker acceleration or have I got this the wrong way round?

Cheers

all the gear ratios apart from final drive 4.44 are higher so slower from start but each gear is longer. so therefore will hold each gear longer. if you have extra power it will make the car faster once moving but marginally slower off the line. and better on fuel

Thanks for the reply, so are you saying that the smaller the number next to each gear means the lower the ratio is?
How does the final drive come in to play tho?

I have got 4 or 5 boxes with diffs and am trying to pick the quickest accelerating one to replace the broken one as its only running standard power and economy isn't a problem. Cheers

Cheers for that Dude, I have got the catherine and ken chart on bookmark! lol
Just need to confirm what the numbers actually meen? ie higher the number longer the ratio or shorter? and does the final drive effect the overall ratio much?

the lower the numbers the lower the gear, ie 4.44:1 is higher than 3.9:1 thats the diff, the gear box is different so to speak 0.87:1 4th gear means the gearbox does 0.87 revolutions per revolution of engine so is lower than a 4th gear of 1:1
