Default shocks help - 2001 bug wrx

Hello, I have a 2001 bugeye wrx, completely standard. I got the pads replaced today at national (was going to use camy but the place was just round the corner and I had a discount voucher). They phoned me and said that one of my rear shocks was gubbed. They recommended that I get both replaced.

Problem is that they are quite expensive, quoted me 200 each (I have a voucher that gives me 20%off so would cost 320).

Question is, are they right and I should replace both or would it be OK to just replace one and does that seem like a fair price?

Don't need anything special as my car is just a daily driver and I don't tend to rag it too much. I'm a wee bit lost with this.

I think the main thing is if the shock needs changing, do I go for 1 or 2 and what would be the cheapest way of doing it?

Check here first for prices. I know their price is fitted and probably geo set included but they are pretty easy to DIY if you have some tools fella. Yep replace both to keep it matched and balanced.

Places like National tend to be a bit more expensive than an independent garage. Are there any Subaru specialists near to you that could quote or a local garage with a good reputation? Always worth asking around and getting some other prices.

Just back from the garage. One of the rear shocks is knackered so will need replacing. I also need new drop links on the front as they are gubbed anyone any idea how much they cost? I'd the top one here the right one for my car:

Thanks for the offer Davie but I think if I am going to replace then I will do it with new.

So in total, 170 for the shockers, 35ish for the drop links if it is the first one on eurocarparts link so 200 for parts and was quoted about 170 for the work. does the labour cost seem ok or is it s bit high?

Apart from my local garage being local, I do trust them, the guy even said that if you can get the parts cheaper then go for that and we can fit them.
