Problems after fitting fmic
Hi out there, im new to this forum and I need some advice on an issue with my 1996 2000 turbo.
I have fitted a front mount intercooler and now the car won't boost correctly, it gets to about .2 of a bar and splutters and pulls back also the tick over is slightly lower and ramping.
The car is running a standard tdo4 variable boost controller adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
The coil packs were changed 200 miles ago and plugs are recent.
I have reset the ecu which is also standard.
Any info on how to possibly cure this would be great.
Cheers...

No . That was suggested to me but was also told that a bigger turbo would help ,
I am not yet finished with the mods yet I am just in the market for a top entry tdo5 I have 440 injectors and was going for the remap once that's all been fitted.
I have another 96wrx import with all the bells and whistles ie vf 22 fmic decat etc etc.
Would it be an idea to strap the ecu to try and see if that sorts it? But at the same time don't want to mess with the import as running perfect at 330 bhp.

sure you aint got a leak I've had 3 classics still got two of them all running fmic ran all of them without mapping them. Both have been mapped now. one had the the fmic for 3 years before being mapped ran spot on aswell.
Unless you have a mappable ecu fella( not the stock `96 ecu)you can't get it mapped....and, as I said before, you problem lies elsewhere and is not down to mapping.
I would go along with this. You should still get boost even without a remap. I would agree that a remap would be necessary once you've finished modding though. The problem with a front mount is that it will spool a little slower and when you back off the throttle and dump the air which has been measured you'll get popping in the exhaust because excess fuel has been added to the air which has been dumped.Using more fuel . also you'll stall the turbo as a normal dump valve or small after market one can't dump all that air quick enough. On an ihi turbo = quick death.
Find the real reason for lack of boost before mapping it or you'll be wasting your time.
Just realised can't get it remapped after a google .if its not a leak what other reason could there be for the issue? Was running fine before the fmic was fitted in fact the old tmic was a bit knackered. Was told it would need the bigger tubo to deal with the lager intercooler but been put down the wrong path to many times so that's why I come to you guys incase anyone had the same issues etc..

You need to go back over what you've done and check every piece of pipe including ones you didn't touch. You can remap if you fit an esl daughter board to your ecu. One of the later ones as early esl can't be live mapped.
As others have said, you cant just bolt on go faster bits like fmic and expect it to run right. you need to have the map tweaked to suit. If your ecu is not mappable then a daughter board or after market ect will be required. Failure to do this could end up expensive and handing over large amounts of cash to an engine builder.
andrew carr will mapp it for you,,he just did my type r 2.5.. runs grate on 1.3 bar of boost on a vf24 turbo ;] give him a ring,,he will come to your house ;]but like some 1 said,, u need a esl board,, or i took the simtek ecu,, then u can have anti lag /l controle and all the toys haha,, i had it the hard way,,,bought a type r with fmic, hks intake,,full exhaust etc but on standard ecu,,so after 2 week of geting it the bottom end whent bang bang,COS IT WASENT MAPPED TO THE MODS,and thats why im runing 2.5 now,,,take every1s advice and gt it mapped to your mods ;]or u be spending good few grand on a new buld ;]

Fitting a FMIC should not require a re-map. My bug had one fitted for two years before I replaced the ECU. Did the kit come with an induction kit that fits to the MAF sensor housing? As if so this will probably be the issue as the MAF will be getting chaotic readings due to turbulent airflow. As happened with mine when I went to get the OE ECU OS mapped a couple of years ago.
Just to let you all know I inspected the fmic and found that one of the t bar straps had broken causing the air leak .
Thanks for your advise the car is running perfect now and it's not cost me a penny to sort.
First class advice , cheers ja...
