Default 245 40 tyres on a classic

I'm toying with the idea of wide arching my classic. I currently have a nice set of 8in rota rims that I don't want to part with is it possible to fit 245 tyres on a 8in rim ? Would 40 profile tyres be ok obviously this is after the arches would be fitted. This would be with 20mm hubcentric spacers to push the wheels out.

Had Anyone already done this I'd greatly seek any info and advice u might have on what tyres your running.

Thanks
