My car (MY99) had its first MOT yesterday and I was worried about the emmissions test, having replaced the centre section and rear tailbox for some massive jap drainpipe thing...

Passed with flying colours.

So for all those out there nervous about the same thing, don't worry.

Squizz,

You have the larger main cat still on in the downpipe haven't you?

Most people have the concern who have removed the OEM downpipe and replaced it with a straight through stainless pipe. It's having only the centre cat on which seems to be touch & go as to whether it will pass.

Yeah, that's right. Some people still have concerns over the second cat, though.

I suppose that as it's removed as part of the PPP it was never going to be a problem.

Which begs the question "Why fit it in the first place?"

So they can remove the restriction and get a bigger gain std vs. PPP. After all they have to justify charging you £2,000!

Im thinking of welding a DP cat onto a midsection flanged spool for MOT time. Should be good.

I have thought about doing this. How delicate is a cat though? Can you just chop it out of the downpipe and weld straight into a centre section or will the heat damage it? I presume it should be okay as exhaust gas temperatures get very hot.

Squizz,

Your right about passing the MOT with the centre cat removed. It was possibbly my thread you noticed. What I dont understand, is that last year with both cats fitted, I had a real trouble tying to scrap through the emissions. This year, with centre removed, it flew through!

By the way, I'm planning on getting the TR7 MOT ed next week
