v1 sti
i have owned my wrx sti version 1 for a year now with out any hiccups. the car is all standard as far as im aware apart from a panel filter de-cat(not sure what the rest of the exhaust is). i bought it in this state and have just done the usual service and cam belt.
i have a rolling road graph in the folder of paper work i have from the car, would this suggest the the car has had some kind of mapping done? it reads max bhp 275. how can i check and would it be advisable to have it checked and mapped if nesessery . thanks

The ECU is located under the passengers feet. Its pretty straight forward to get to on these cars. Just a screwdriver for the clips, and a 10mm socket. Pull the cover off of the ECU and take a look in the lower right for a chip in a socket.
Alternatively, if you have a cable for it its even easier.
Most of the big name mappers will put a sticker on the cover of the ecu so you would know straight away by looking at it.

if its a v1 sti it will have a chip fitted from the factory, it will have a white sticker with faint green lines on it and computer type text. http://forums.jdmvip.com/Which_WRXST...preza-2079-t-2

That kinda sucks... The V1 motors were hand built, right? I guess it would have been cool to have them hand tuned as well.
I guess that was the days before the "mapping hype"

I've managed to take a look at the ecu today and here it is. It looks slightly different to the one in the jdmvip link.
Any thoughts wether this std or not. Thanks. Ben
