Any suggestions would be appreciated...
I am in a bit of a difficult situation and I am looking for advice from the many knowledgeable people on this forum.
On Saturday the 5th August 2000, I come out of my flat having travelled to work using public transport all week. The back of my two-month-old Scooby had been smashed in and there was a note on my windscreen from one of my neighbours.
The previous Monday, a guy in a Fiat Tipo crashed in to a large number of cars in my area! Mine was the second last car to be hit and numerous people witnessed the accident. I was at work at the time and had not used the car that week so I hadn’t noticed the damage.
When the guy in the Tipo was arrested, he was found to be GOD knows how much over the limit. He was prosecuted and was given a 12 month suspended sentence and a driving ban.
I assumed everything would be okay, but the first problem came in the form of a letter informing me that the insurance details taken by the arresting officer turned out to be false. Apparently, I was unable to do anything about this until the criminal case against the guy was complete. Since then the whole thing has been a farce. Ironically, I know the name, address and even the registration of this guy’s car, but I am still pi$$ing in to the wind, even with 7 witnesses!!! My insurance company has pursued the claim but they say they cannot do anything because he is now refusing to surrender his insurance details and apparently nothing can be done? I have even tried the small claims court, but still no joy. The last letter received by the court claimed that he was ‘dead’ – let’s hope so!
I have been driving for 13 years and had managed to amass 7 years of NCB’s. My premium is now ludicrous and I am bitter.
Strangely enough, the fact he was caught is WORSE, because it means that he can laugh at me and still not pay up! At least if it had been anonymous damage I would have accepted it.
Does anybody have any suggestions about where I can go from here?

Wuss,
Similar thing happened to a mate (he got hit by an uninsured motorcyclist, who totalled the front of his car), Police nicked him, but as no insurance my mate has had to claim on his fully comp policy to get car fixed, but due to the cost of the repairs his insurance company is very keen to get the money from the bloke.
Try posting again in the insurance section as I know it's monitored by people in the industry, they may give you a more definitive answer.
Alternatively chat to the bobbys at the police station explain your plight and they may reveal his location (unofficially of course), you can then go round there and take all his furniture and shave his eyebrows off (or something more appropriate - like a good kicking)
Just my thoughts obviously.
