Movement in steering
Hi,
Lets hope someone here can help me out,
I have a 1996 Scooby Legacy 2.0 none turbo. I've started to get movement in the steering, I have checked the track rod ends and found them to be good.
I have had friends help me, by holding the wheels and moved the steering wheel and I have a little play from left to right, about 1/2cm. When I look under the bonnet I can see the shaft for the steering moving a bit but no movement is being transferred to the wheels.
When I am on the motorway doing 70, sometimes the car will act as if I have moved the wheel left or right a bit (this can be dangerous) and the steering wheel has not been moved at all. this can also happen on bumpy roads.
Any help on this matter would be great, as after repairing the gearbox, renewing the clutch, doing drive gaters in the last month I'm running out of money and starting to think its time for a new car.
Thanks

Hi, I got under the bonnet yesterday and checked the knuckle and I found it to be all good BUT ... Don't laugh, one of the bolts was loose, so I cracked out my 12mm spanner and got about 3 turns on it, and guess what... all sorted!!!
Thanks for the advice and help. I'm sure this is not the last you have heard from me with troubles.
