Default ODBII Connection

Hi,

I recently bought a 2001 WRX. The battery had gone flat at the dealer (a VW specialist who had it in on part exchange). They put a new one in but turning it over at low voltage registered as a piston misfire with the engine management system and the amber warning light popped up.

My local garage charged me £48 just to reset it, which was worth the peace of mind at the time but I don't fancy paying it again so I bought an ODBII-to-USB connector and some software so I can check any future error codes before taking it in.

The ODBII port isn't where I was expecting it to be. I thought it would be in the little compartment to the right of the steering column but that houses the code entry pad for the immobiliser (maybe after market?). Looking under the steering column, behind the immobiliser number pad, there are some loose wires (green and white blocks on the end) that look familiar after some googling. The ODBII adaptor I have is a single 16-pin trapezoid shape so I'm not sure how I'd plug that in.

Anyone have any experience of doing this?

Owen

There should be an OBD II port under the steering wheel on the Bugeye WRX......
