hi im new here but will probably be walking the halls of scooby net looking for answers!
i have a 98 uk wagon,GF8KD3W i cant find anything about the vin? and my bottom end has decided to go . i know it will be easier to change the whole unit, could anyone help me as to which one im looking for? im lead to believethat a ej20 from a 96 wont fit, my coil pack is in the centre at the top. sorry i dont know much about the technical side but trying to learn, so if anyone could assist me i would appreicate it alot.
i seem to be being told different things by different people and theres no place better to find out what i need to right here :
ive been told to just get another engine and my mechanic will help me fit it. but hes not familiar with the different versions ie 3/4/5 and i am none the wiser

Are your bolts which hold down the manifold in a straight line
Or staggered

 

i think there staggered when looking the manifold on top left is closer than the right side hope that helps?

That car with a central coil pack has the inlet manifold bolts central to the face. I have a good used engine just coming out of a car right now if you care to call. It was a one lady owner car that has failed MOT for rusty holes in the rear suspension turrets. We bought it in. The engine will be thoroughly tested, with a new belt and modded oil pump fitted for safety.
