Default 2007 Hawkeye STI Noise from Rear End

Hi,

I've just bought a 2007 Hawkeye STI and when driving back from picking it up i've noticed a noise at low speed from the back end in both forward and reverse it sound like rolling about in the boot. When I got home I emptied the boot took out the spare wheel liners, jack checked everywhere to make sure there was nothing left in there but still making the noise.

I then jacked up the back and and checked both back wheels for noisy bearings or binding brakes but all ok so I'm worried there a problem with the rear diff.

Has anybody experienced this or have any ideas.

Cheers

Scott

Cheers for the quick reply m8

It was still doing it on a virtually smooth road with no vibrations, that what was confusing me.

if it is the strut is there a easy fix or will it need a new strut, and how do you know which strut it is.

Cheers

There is a quick fix for the strut clunk which is spraying them with grease, should be loads of info on here about it as it's common. I took mine off and fitted grease nipples following a guide I found online.

Is it a noise that is unexpected ? What I mean is it's not something like tyre noise etc. I'm not trying to be funny just it's hard to diagnose over the net.

I know and I appreciate your help, its also quite hard to explain what it sounds like.

I have a can of spray grease I'll give both rear struts a squirt tomorrow and see if it helps.

Thanks again and i'll keep you posted.

Check for stones inside the rear defuser. If you unbolt it you maybe surprised at the amount of stuff that gets flicked up inside it.
