Hi All

I am looking at going to Vietnam/Cambodia for a holiday. Probably for 3 weeks. Not sure of time (probably September-ish). And will travel around.

Has anybody done this before or have any tips or recommendations? Websites to use?

I am not a student and wont need to be sharing a bedroom with 460000 other people....just me and the misses.

Anyway, any advice any of you can provide would be very welcome.

We spent a few days in Cambodia about seven years ago. It was fantastic. We didn't really travel the country we were there just to explore the Angkor Wat temple complexes which as well worth the effort.

We stayed at the Intercontinental which was close to the temples. I remember it being really really hot and the food was delicious!

I haven’t been there (been to Thailand) but am looking at doing a trip around Indochina that includes Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Vietnam is lovely (third world) country.

The north (hoyan etc) is much more suited to tourists.

The war museum in Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) is fascinating - mainly due to the fact you are seeing it from the other perspective. There are also trips to some tunnels near(ish) the city.

Roads are ****ing lethal - do not even contemplate driving.

It is VERY cheap.

Never been to Cambodia, went to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon), a couple of times on business when I lived in Thailand. Like most asian countries, the people are fantastic, and the food is amazing. We went on one the tips to the tunnels just north of the city. They are a proper eye opener, and well worth a visit

I would though advise against going between late August to mid September, as that's when the temperature and humidity are at their worst

Another +1 on the traffic, I thought I'd seen it all in India, but Ho Chi Minh is a whole other level of scary

I spent 4 weeks in vietnam and a week in cambodia and it was amazing.
I could probably write a whole book about how much you can see and do there.

 

fantastic place if you avoid the boarder between Thailand and Cambodia. Phnom Penh is a great place to stay; lots to see and do. S21 prison and Killing Fields are pretty shocking but also worth a visit...

Make sure you give yourself at least two days for Angkor Wat there is an unbelievable amount to see, the sheer scale of the place is breath taking. You need to take extra batteries and memory cards for that visit.

Food is super cheap and amazing too.

Bloody hot and sweaty though and prepare to be professionally stalked by local kids trying to sell you all sorts of crap . Enjoy your trip

 

I would say three days for the temples at angkor as there are loads of them. Make sure you get a guide, when I went a motorbike taxi driver for a day was $5.00 and about $20 us for a guide for 2 days. It will probably cost 3 times that now but hardly breaks the bank..

 

Good point...guide will usually pick you up from wherever you are staying too.
