Best to go for a UK 6 speed if you do not want to go the hassle of changing the rear shafts, hubs and brakes.

Simple option Uk 6 speed, gear linkage, auto prop and a diff from a uk turbo and you are good to go.

Done two of these now one fitted and one to be fitted...

On my 95' WRX... 5spd Clutch/Fly/starter - 6spd box ,linkage, ****, 6spd cradle, mount, 6spd prop, 6spd diff, 6spd hubs and driveshafts...basically everything bar the 5spd clutch etc...

On my 95' STi 5spd Clutch/Fly/starter - 6spd box, linkage, ****, 6spd cradle, mount, 6spd prop, R160 3.54 diff, matching shafts and 95 STi hubs ....more of a mix and match

Both UK boxes, one a Prodrive Bug box and one an 03 Blob box

Any 6 speed, along with the matching R160 rear diff will cope with 450 bhp no problem.

If you want to start doing standing starts, in which case fitting the bigger/ stronger R180 set up would be benificial.

In my p1 I run a 5 speed AP organic clutch and RCM lightweight 5 speed flywheel with a 6 speed dccd and 450bhp - all works hunky dory. I have an R180 plated diff complete back end.

Ian - read through this thread

The guys that helped me do my 6 speed conversion were nothing short of priceless and you can find all their expert opinions and guidence on the thread I just gave you - everything you need is there

ps: to accompany my 6 speed box, I went for a 5 speed Fidanza flywheel and a 5 speed Exedy 4 paddle clutch (the clutch feels OEM and works beautifully)

nb: cradle is exactly the same, but gear box mount on the cradle is different. starter is exactly the same. also use the 6 speed fork and slave as they differ from the 5 speed ones.

You only need to change starters if you are changing flywheel as the ring gear are different.

Hi dasdavies

going by some of your older posts, can i just double check that this is right and all that i need please.

my car is a version 6 sti classic (1999)

That if you get a 6 speed box from a UK car then you'll need an UK R160 (3.54) Diff from a UK turbo 2000.

You current Diff although an R160 is not of the correct ratio.

All newage six speed diffs are R180 and thus too big for your current set up.

So to recap, what you need for the easiest solution is the following.

UK 6 Speed gearbox
R160 Diff from a UK Turbo 2000 (plenty of them around)
6 Speed prop or a prop from an Auto WRX
Gear linkage and gear ****.

Everything else will just swap over such as Flywheel and clutch etc.

Correct if I was you though Ian I'd go down the R180 route first time around. Should be no problem sourcing exactly all that you need.

I've reused my 5 speed starter as I'm using a 5 speed flywheel and clutch
