Cool

Do MY94 UK spec really have closed deck blocks?

Does anyone know?

Here in Switzerland a tuner told me that all MY94 (UK-spec) have closed deck blocks as standard.

thanks for any information

The 94 WRX (non STi) definately has the closed deck block, so I'd say the chances were high.

any way, without cracking the block that you can tell if it is closed deck or not? by the engine number? would love to think the blackbeast has a closed deck block!

I thought it was only WRX... but as we all seem to have Ally bonnets, maybe the block is the same (as I have a UK MY94, it would be a comforting to know).

Pete Croney would be the man to ask....

there are no men to ask as no oen knows for sure about any of them.

There seem to be spurious changes all over the place depending on what they ahd available at the time. I must admit you are more likely to have a closed deck block in an older car, and since the UK and WRX cars seem to be identical apart from their maps, it would be fair to say, that the older ones are also more likely to be closed deck.

Again its only a guess.

Patricks old sti 2 was not a closed deck, and that was an my95.

most of the others he and others have taken apart including older ej22 from legacies have not been.

The only model that we know for sure does always have a closed deck block is the 22B (but that is until one person doesnt have one!).

Perhaps it was a factory fit option again like all the other custom mods available.

Question

Cheers R19KET,

The open deck appears (obviously) not to be closed with regard to the water jacket, is this right? If so, whats the advantage of this?

Cheers,

Rob
