Default Snapped my temp gauges needle in the clock

Hi, I was putting the car back together and while working on the clock, the temp gauge needle snapped from the base ( the part where its connected)

After some cursing and trying to put it back I realised it broke ( just thought it fell out or something at first) and it looks like it snapped off. I cannot get it back in to place so I think Im right? or do these have some kind of technique to get them back in again?

Should I fix it, buy a new clock or buy a water temp gauge (I assume its the same thing?)
for a quick fix?

Thanks in advance, James
