Rear Diff Rebuild
Hi All
Planning my winter project and think the transmission in my spec c could do with a overhaul and check over.
I have a knocking noise on drive train slack take up and not sure where it is coming from.
If I open the rear diff then what am I likely to see which could be causing this. The only thing I can think of are the bearings on input and outputs.
Likewise the same question for the gearbox!
Thanks

OR, it could be cumulative slack in the splines of the drive line;
Gearbox to prop,
Centre prop joint,
Diff flange to pinion,
Lsd drive gears to CV's, either side
Inner Cv's to axle shafts, either side
Outer Cv's to axle shafts, either side
CV spline to wheel hub flange, either side
Slack in rear lsd viscous coupling
That's twelve possibilities.......................
Devilishly difficult to pin down and cure.
Start with backlash in the crown wheel and pinion.
And if that don't fix it --- live with it.

Thanks David.
Having read the Subaru technical manual I'm hoping its the crown wheel to pinion as at least that can be adjusted and you have kindly said the same thing.
If not like you say ill just live with it
