if i get new exhaust with cats in...can i still have a re-map?/
im looking at getting a fatter exhaust, vortex afterburner, some people say i need to get one with sports cat because iv got bugeye wrx, and some say just de-cat the new exhaust? if i de-cat ...what about getting it through m.o.t? but if i get sports cat exhaust does that mean that i will not get full power and cant get a re-map?
If you remove all the cats it will fail the mot, some people put the cat back on once a year for mot test then back off once passed
the difference between sport cat and no cat will be around 10ish bhp depending on how good the sport cat is, so not much really

You can remove all of them, or none of them, as long as the car is set up for it. (mapping) Your mapper will be able to get more power out of it the fewer cats there are.
Generally, in the first stage, we remove the last two, and set it up like that.
Running on V Power fuel, you'll gain around 45 bhp over stock.
The MOT test means you'll have to put your cat back on, then take it off afterwards, or fit a sport cat. (We supply them for around £280 inc vat) The 100 cell sport cat is almost as good for power as no cat at all in our experience.
It doesn't matter that much for stage one what rear system you use. The Afterburner ones are very noisy!
The WRX has three cats (see drawing!)

For the OP: I had a 2001 WRX, removed all three cats and replaced with a Ninja sports cat in the downpipe, H&S deresonated centre, existing Prodrive back box. Green air filter, it made 273bhp with an Andy F remap.
Worth doing Prodrive springs (£200 + fitting) plus EBC Bluestuff NDX brake pads if you're upping the power. Turns and stops much better, with little loss in ride comfort.
