I loved the 6 speed in my old p1 and in my old sti 5, had the UK and a jdm box and personally didnt find much in it. They are pretty much bullet proof from what my limited knowledge goes, not heard of on breaking compared to the other choices. There are people running 500+ of each with no issues imo do a job once and do it right, drop a 6 speed in it and forget it

R180 are 'stronger' and only fit R180 rear hubs, R160 are smaller/weaker and only fit with R160 rear hubs!

There are also different kinds of each e.g Helical/LSD which require different drive shafts!

JDM Boxes have even closer ratios and a lower 6th (lower than a UK 5 speed 5th).

JDM boxes have a lower 5th and 6th gear compared to a UK six speed.

P.S. The gap on the UK box from 4th to 5th is just a bit too great. IMHO.

the biggest difference is the ratios between a 5 and 6 speed, personaly i prefer the 5 speed ratios.

My JDM 6 speed is at 3500rpm at Motorway cruising speed, the UK 5 speed was more like 3000

im unning 6 speed in my p1 and my gear ratios are pretty much same as my 5 speed was for some reason, althopugh weni had the same box in my uk turbo they were much shorter! sounds weird i know, anyway 1 con would be it weighs ur car down and defo slows it down, big pro is the reliabilty

JDM 6 speed has a slightly stronger teeth on the 5th & 6th than UK 6 speed IIRC.

my classic with a JDM 6MT with 6th @ 4000revs makes exactly 148 km/h
a european 6MT would make 165+

But I love the short gear ratios so much....
