i have a 1997 uk, i was driving it last sunday when i got noise like something being dragged under the car,

i noticed a noise coming from the gearbox so carried on, then as i selected 2nd gear the noise got worse "like a bag of nut's and bolts been thrown in the gearbox" slowly 1st and 2nd gear have got louder, but 3rd to 5th are fine,

now when i start the car it rattle's on idle but when i depress clutch the noise goes and sound's fine,selecting gears at idle and moving is fine and smooth apart from the noise,

question is, is the gearbox gone or something else possibly ?.

If it sounds like that it's the 'box.
