Just been to a mates house who claims he was shown a newspaper article last week whereby a driver was stopped over by the pi...ahem...police , and fined £5000 for the use of a radar detector.

On the way to his house my detector warned me of a radar gunned officer and I duly drove past smiling to myself.....if the above is true this could have been very costly!!!

Anyone else seen or heard about this newspaper story????

You might want to check with him if it was a radar jammer, which is illegal, rather than a detector which is not.
Most likely is that the story was of a driver in France based on the insanely high fine.
But I have not seen the story and am just guessing

 

Detectors were declared legal in a case several years back, but there are current moves to outlaw them again. AFAIAA, they are still legal - at the moment. The ABD or the speedtrap sites will probably have further info.
