Default Why does the clutch judder...

I'm hoping somebody can explain why these clutches judder....

I have a Bug WRX (2001) and when the car is cold the clutch really judders and then it stops when the car has been running for a while. For the rest of the day it will be silky smooth even if I've let it cool down.

Maybe it just doesn't like mornings.

Unfortunately it is a common fault with imprezas. I have had two classics and now have a bugeye and they have all done it. Excedy do an anti-judder clutch now which is meant to be pretty good.

I would imagine that it is worse in the mornings as the car has been sat a while and everything is at it's coldest

It's something that I can live with so as long as there is nothing physically wrong with it then I'm happy as it is.

It's just a case of finding a cars little quirks I guess.

Best way to tell is when the clutch slips, So when driving at 60mph in 5th gear accelerate hard if the revs go up without the car moving you have a slipping clutch

. My car managed 80,000 miles before the clutch finally gave up. When I was at 3,000 revs and the car came on boost the rev counter would jump to 4000 revs but the car was going no faster just like shane says above.
