Default Auto Gearbox Oil Change ?

My wife's H6 Outback hasn't had a gearbox oil change for about 5 years now - the local garage has told us that if it isn't broke, don't change it, since the car has done over 100k.

Is there any truth to this ?

The car does occasionally tow a caravan.

Hi there what i know, oil in gearbox must be changed every 30k miles, but this depend on your tune and this what you told mechanic is again just myth about the Auto boxes...
These are good oils for auto gearbox Millermatic SP3 or Fuchs Titan 4000

Hi

According to our data, the oil should be changed at 30k, so it's due for a change. I'd recommend doing it rather than leaving it - oil loses it's properties over time, so it won't be protecting the gearbox as well as it should be.

Cheers

Tim

I'd recommend changing it. But not using one of those machines that suck it all out. I have only heard bad things doing it that way.
I do mine every 30K miles with a filter change, which gets just over half of the fluid out. Then after about 5K miles I just drain it again, which is about a litre. It's still pretty clean every time I change it.
I would rather do it more frequently than have to have a new gearbox
