Default Turbo problems.....

Went to fit the decat downpipe onto my 96 jdm wrx only to find that the bottom three bolts had no thread on them til about half way down the bolt?

The top two bolts were removable but these bottom three are studed into the turbo housing and i cant seem to budge them to take them out.

My new decat top bracket is too thick for a nut to be able to grip the threads as they are so far down the bolt..

What am i suppossed to do here????? Can anyone tell me if these bolts are actually removable or what my options are??

The studs should come out the turbo. use 2 nuts to lock each other then get some heat around the area to loosen them.

il give that a go, but im afraid of wreckin the housing. The threads on the studs all stop again about 3mm before they enter the turbo housing leading me to think that they cant be removed??

They should be studs. they will be a bit tuff get moving because the heating cooling they do. Can always try using plus gas or something similar.

Yea thats them, mines are longer just. Im going to have to find a nut that fits them to take them out as the ones that came off are f##k#d.

What should have been a simple decat transfer has turned into a nightmare...go figure

That goes with working on the cars. I got take all mine off again to fit the decat up pipe.

I got a new uppipe sittin here but never fitted one before so might just get mechanic to do it..are they hard mate?

3bolts to the turbo and 2 bolts to the manifold so not that bad. While the downpipe is off might as well change that as well.

had a look at it there looks handy enough but the nuts an bolts are rusted bad so i can see whats gonna happen..why does the downpipe have to be removed for the uppipe to be fitted?They are on opposite sides of the turbo??

From memory the back nut is covered by the downpipe. But i think the access was tight when the standard downpipe was on there, so with the aftermarket one on there might be more room. Plus if you need to remove the turbo to get the studs removed if they snap less to take off.

Ahh yes i see now there is a fourth bolt under the downpipe that connects the uppipe.

This turbo is gonna have to come off these studs aren't budgin 1 bit...

Try soaking the studs over night with plus gas, normally works a treat when i have had seized nuts/studs. I have had to tap the spanner with a hammer to remove the studs out my mates turbo.

i havent got the original nuts that came off so i dont know what size to ask for down at the parts shop..tried vice gripin the studs but just ended up bustin my knuckles and dont want to wreck what little is left of the threads. Im thinkin this could be a defeat might have to call in the mechanic..my wallet just shivered
